About this photograph
Infusomat family identified by source; exact version unknown. This is a close-up tubing-path illustration, not a compactplus model photograph.
The decision at a glance.
- Start here
- Compare Infusomat/Perfusor compactplus where B. Braun consumables and service are dependable. Give Agilia VP MC WiFi/SP MC equal consideration where Fresenius replenishment and technical support are stronger.
- Spend more when
- Fund drug libraries, profiles and networking when the hospital has people to approve, maintain and update them. Family standardization is useful when it reduces training and supply work; matching fronts alone does not justify replacement.
- Watch the budget
- Compare the same annual approved-set basket, including delivered prices, minimum orders and expiry. Standard Infusomat compactplus does not accept arbitrary tubing; physical syringe fit does not establish validated operation.
- Check the support
- Require calibration/verification and battery support. For donated Spectrum or networked Alaris systems, identify exact serials or software versions and the applicable correction record.
Ask the supplier
- Which approved set codes and syringe brands/sizes are supplied locally?
- What is their delivered annual cost at our expected use?
- Who maintains the pump configuration, drug library and verification schedule?
Calculate the consumable difference before the capital saving
The earlier Tech Pump recommendation asked a useful question: what does the tubing cost? It stopped short of the evidence needed to answer it. Without an OEM, model, approved-set list and calibration instructions, a claim to accept ordinary IV tubing is not a purchase specification. The approved set determines whether the manufacturer's performance claims apply. Name the device before treating its apparent flexibility as an advantage.
For compactplus and Agilia, build the same annual basket of the required approved set variants. Multiply expected use by delivered prices, then add minimum-order, freight and expiry costs. That exposes the recurring difference before a discounted pump price dominates the discussion. Replenishment matters just as much: a cheap set that arrives irregularly can leave a complete pump unavailable.
Standard Infusomat compactplus uses specified sets. A seller referring to a different tubing-compatible compactplus variant must identify that exact variant and its approved list. The same discipline applies to a donated Alaris or Spectrum family name: it does not identify an approved administration set. When the consumables basket is sustainable, compare the delivered pump, clamp, battery and service package on equal terms.
Standardize the syringe supply before the front panels
Perfusor compactplus and Agilia SP MC deserve a separate syringe-pump decision. First match the required functions and sizes to syringes the service can actually buy. Physical fit does not establish validated delivery, and the smallest displayed rate increment does not establish equivalent performance for every intended use.
Perfusor's shared compactplus interface can simplify an existing Infusomat training and service arrangement. Agilia SP MC can be the stronger ownership choice where its approved syringe supply and regional technical support are already dependable. Keeping different volumetric and syringe families may be sensible if it preserves those advantages. Buy a matching family when it reduces real work; do not discard a supported system to make the pumps look uniform.
A smart-pump feature needs an owner
Available drug libraries, WiFi and profiles are capabilities, not an installed hospital program. The useful purchasing distinction is whether the service has people who will approve the configuration, maintain it and support any server or interface. Fund those tasks alongside the feature. If the integration will not be operated, judge the required standalone configuration rather than assigning value to an unused network.
A donated Alaris fleet makes that distinction particularly tangible. Inventory controllers, modules, software versions, batteries, approved sets and service history as one system. Existing staff familiarity and technical capacity can justify keeping a complete fleet. Mixed hardware that cannot be configured and verified adds work before it adds usable channels. The relevant donation cost is the amount needed to bring each required channel into service.
Two correction records to check on donated fleets
Baxter's 2025 Spectrum/Spectrum IQ action concerns identified units that may lack motor-mounting screws, including an issue associated with servicing. Check the serial and documented inspection status; this is not evidence that every Spectrum pump has the defect. It strengthens the case for traceable refurbishment rather than a power-on-only seller description.
The 2025 BD correction reviewed here concerns particular Alaris Systems Manager and Care Coordination Engine Adapter software versions under automated-programming conditions. It must not be presented as a recall of every standalone Alaris pump. A networked offer needs the relevant software and correction record in addition to hardware checks.
For a new compactplus-versus-Agilia purchase, the strongest available evidence concerns approved consumables, documented features and an identifiable service route. It does not establish comparative failure rates. For a used pump, condition and completed verification can change the decision more than its family name. No unit was tested in this research.

Model notes, pricing & support 4 options
B. Braun Infusomat compactplus
Volumetric compactplus platform
- Best for
- A facility wanting an identifiable platform with a defined administration-set supply
- Why consider it
- The compactplus family provides documented loading and anti-free-flow features plus an available drug-library system. Pairing it with the syringe platform may simplify training and service procurement.
- The trade-off
- The standard Infusomat compactplus uses specified sets. Do not mistake compatibility with a named set family for permission to use any visually similar tubing.
- Price & package
- Quote required including pump, pole clamp, power supply, battery, starter sets and annual set pricing.
- Support
- Current manufacturer catalog and system documentation verified. Destination repair capability, spare inventory and service access remain unconfirmed.
Fresenius Kabi Agilia VP MC WiFi
Volumetric Agilia platform
- Best for
- A service able to support the Agilia set supply and any chosen connectivity
- Why consider it
- The published volumetric platform has a defined SafeClip arrangement and a current regional technical-service route. It is a concrete competitor to compactplus rather than a generic import specification.
- The trade-off
- WiFi is not automatically valuable where the hospital will not operate an integration or drug-library process. Compare the complete required configuration and approved disposables.
- Price & package
- Quote required for regional model, accessories, consumables and any software/service licenses.
- Support
- Current UK manufacturer page and technical-service information verified; that does not establish availability in another country.
B. Braun Perfusor compactplus
Syringe compactplus platform
- Best for
- A service needing a dedicated syringe platform within a compactplus fleet
- Why consider it
- Its semi-automatic drive and shared family interface offer a coherent platform to evaluate beside Infusomat. The purchasing advantage is potentially fewer training and support arrangements, not proven superior delivery performance.
- The trade-off
- The approved syringe brands and sizes must match what the hospital can actually obtain. A syringe fitting physically is insufficient evidence of validated operation.
- Price & package
- Quote required with approved-syringe list, clamp, battery and service package.
- Support
- Current manufacturer product and family documentation verified; destination support and syringe-library configuration require confirmation.
Fresenius Kabi Agilia SP MC
Syringe Agilia platform
- Best for
- A service comparing syringe procurement and support within the Agilia ecosystem
- Why consider it
- The manufacturer documents rate/dose programming and configurable profiles. It is a meaningful alternative when the local Fresenius service and syringe supply proposal is stronger.
- The trade-off
- Configuration work is still work: a library or profile feature has little value without ownership, validation and update responsibilities. Verify the exact approved syringe list.
- Price & package
- Quote required including syringe configuration, accessories and maintenance.
- Support
- Current regional manufacturer product and technical contact verified; no claim of global parts availability.
Budget for the complete service.
Cost per available infusion-channel day = pumps and accessories + approved sets/syringes consumed + library/integration costs + batteries and scheduled verification + repair and spare-pump provision, divided by days the complete channel can be used.
- Approved tubing/syringe price, freight, minimum orders and expiry losses
- Battery replacement and qualified calibration/verification service
- Drug-library configuration and optional network/server support
- Spare pumps while units are repaired
- Exact controller/module and software completeness of donations
Further checks & evidence limits
Questions to resolve
- What is the exact OEM/model behind the historical Tech Pump?
- Which approved sets and syringe brands are stocked reliably in the destination?
- Are drug-library and network functions required, and who will maintain them?
- Which exact Spectrum serials or Alaris software versions are offered, and what corrective actions are documented?
What the evidence does not establish
- Tech Pump identity and current support remain unresolved.
- No delivered capital or consumable quotes were obtained; numerical total-cost comparisons would be speculative.
- No independent comparative failure rates were found.
- Current local repair acceptance and parts availability remain to be established for every shortlist model.
