Buying suction: the battery and canister decide the fit

The useful comparison starts with the complete portable kit or surgical station—not the vacuum number on the pump.

Your buying summary

The decision at a glance.

Start here
Use battery-equipped Vacu-Aide 7325P-D as a compact portable benchmark. For mains surgical suction, start with Medela Basic when its 30 L/min free-airflow class meets the defined requirement.
Spend more when
Compare VX-2 for a suitable transport mount and parts arrangement, or LSU for its battery access and canister/service options. Dominant Flex adds selectable 40/50/60 L/min for a defined higher-flow need.
Watch the budget
7325D-D lacks the battery supplied in 7325P-D. VX-2's AC charger cannot run the pump through a failed battery. Medela's movable units remain mains powered. Include jars, lids, filters and tubing.
Check the support
Verify flow, vacuum and battery performance with the delivered collection system under the manufacturer's procedure. Choose canister parts the hospital can replenish or reprocess appropriately.

Ask the supplier

  1. Does this exact suffix include a battery and our required mount?
  2. Can it operate from mains directly, or only charge from mains?
  3. Which collection and overflow-protection parts are included and locally replaceable?

The USD 398 portable option—and the suffix that matters

Walton Medical's opened October 16, 2026 price is USD 398.00 for 7325P-D, the battery model with carrying case. That gives the portable comparison a concrete starting point, while the model card keeps the unconfirmed contents and delivery terms visible. The similar 7325D-D has no battery. A small suffix error can therefore remove the very function that makes the purchase useful.

VX-2 presents a different power trap: its AC charger charges the battery but does not directly run the pump. A failed battery is not resolved by including the cord. Select the back and mount before buying as well; FlatBack is not a promise of a later bracket upgrade. These are better reasons to inspect an offer closely than a small difference in advertised vacuum.

LSU becomes worth considering when its tool-less battery access, chosen canister system and actual service arrangement solve transport work. Compare the complete kit against VX-2 and 7325P-D. For acceptance, qualified personnel should use the manufacturer's procedure with the delivered container, filter and tubing. A pump reaching a high blocked vacuum does not establish the required flow through the working system, and a motor turning briefly does not establish battery endurance.

Count the canister families before accepting a mixed donation

Every incompatible container, lid and filter adds another item that must be stocked. That can make a mixed donation harder to keep ready than a smaller fleet of complete identical kits. Drive's published collection-system compatibility across 7325, 7305 and 7314 can preserve an existing supply arrangement, provided the exact listed parts are used. The saving comes from a workable parts list, not from assuming every canister fits.

LSU's collection-system versions and Medela's surgical accessories create their own purchasing choices. Compare disposable liners with a reusable system that the facility can reprocess according to instructions. Reusable jars carry cleaning, seal-replacement and turnaround costs; disposable liners carry replenishment and storage costs. Choose the system that can be sustained in the actual workflow.

A missing filter or incomplete overflow-protection system can make a working pump unavailable. Include the appropriate initial supplies and reserve stock in the purchase. Makeshift overflow arrangements or reuse of single-use items are not substitutes for a complete supported collection system.

Pay for 60 L/min only when the surgical requirement needs it

Medela Basic and Dominant Flex separate the surgical choice clearly. Basic's published 30 L/min free-airflow class is enough to begin a comparison for a requirement within that specification. Dominant Flex's selectable 40/50/60 L/min is the capability to fund when the service has defined a need for it. Compare the pump with the same collection capacity, filters and mounting arrangement; a bare high-flow unit and a completed Basic station are different offers.

Both platforms remain mains powered. A portable version with a handle is not battery backup for an outage. Include electrical continuity or a separately appropriate backup in the station budget. If the actual requirement is a central vacuum installation, it needs its own engineering assessment; the portable equipment comparison does not establish that system's capacity.

An older pump can stay if its next repair is plausible

A maintained S-SCORT II/III or Gomco G180 may still be useful when the exact unit has verified performance and compatible supplies. Before paying to ship another, identify its model and serial and the source for the next service part. This review did not establish current manufacturer acceptance or component stock for those legacy models. That makes a known working unit a conditional retention choice and an unsupported donation a much less attractive way to standardize.

For the current shortlist, accessible batteries, public parts lists and service documents make ownership easier to evaluate. They do not measure which pump will last longest. No directly comparable independent failure-rate evidence was found, so the buying judgment rests on complete functionality, supply continuity and repairability rather than a durability ranking.

Compare the options.

Drive DeVilbiss Vacu-Aide 7325P-D

Compact battery-equipped portable option

Best for
A service requiring a compact battery-equipped suction unit within its labeled use
Why consider it
The published 7325P-D package includes a battery, disposable container and carry bag. Drive documents compatible collection-system parts shared with older Vacu-Aide families, which may preserve useful existing supply arrangements.
The trade-off
7325D-D has no battery; similar names are not interchangeable. Container/filter configuration also differs by suffix. Confirm the actual pressure/flow requirement rather than choosing solely on portability.
Price & package
Walton Medical displayed USD 398.00 for SKU 7325P-D on October 16, 2026: the battery model with carrying case, distinct from nonbattery 7325D-D. Confirm complete canister/filter/tubing contents, freight, tax and export support. This retail asking price is not a delivered mission quote.
Support
Manufacturer specification and accessory list found. Destination repair service, replacement battery availability and warranty coverage remain open.

SSCOR S-SCORT VX-2, correct back/mount version

Mounted transport option

Best for
A service prioritizing vehicle mounting and a documented replacement-parts route
Why consider it
SSCOR publishes replacement batteries and components for the identified current platform. The mounting version can be selected before purchase rather than improvised afterward.
The trade-off
Its AC charger charges the battery but does not directly run the pump. A failed battery therefore cannot be dismissed because an AC cord is included. FlatBack is not a later bracket-upgrade promise.
Price & package
Quote required with selected back, mount, power accessories, battery and collection supplies.
Support
Current manufacturer product and own-store parts listings verified; export repair turnaround unconfirmed.

Laerdal Suction Unit (LSU), collection system specified

Portable service and canister options

Best for
A transport program that values an accessible battery and established service documentation
Why consider it
The tool-less battery arrangement and manufacturer service offering are useful ownership features. The buyer can deliberately choose a reusable or specified disposable-canister ecosystem.
The trade-off
Canister versions are not simply cosmetic; they change stocking and reprocessing. Published free-flow battery runtime is a test condition, not a promise for every aged battery and working load.
Price & package
Quote required for exact canister version, mount, power leads and spare battery.
Support
Current product page and manufacturer service commitment found. Local repair location and loaner terms still need confirmation.

Medela Basic

Defined surgical-flow requirement

Best for
A defined surgical suction requirement that fits the Basic platform
Why consider it
Its published 30 L/min free-airflow class gives a clear starting point for comparison without paying automatically for a higher-flow model. Rack, portable and trolley arrangements can be priced separately.
The trade-off
Portable here describes a movable mains-powered unit, not a battery transport device. Collection jars, filters and trolley can materially change the delivered cost.
Price & package
Quote required for exact regional reference, mounting arrangement and collection system.
Support
Current manufacturer technical sheet and service-manual reference verified; local parts and service contract unconfirmed.

Medela Dominant Flex

Selectable higher surgical flow

Best for
A surgical service whose specification requires its selectable flow capability
Why consider it
Selectable 40/50/60 L/min operation is a concrete capability difference from Basic. It may be worth paying for when the clinical service has defined that requirement.
The trade-off
Buying maximum flow without a need consumes money that may be better spent on a complete collection system or backup unit. It remains mains powered.
Price & package
Quote required including approved collection system, filters and any foot controls.
Support
Current manufacturer product and instructions verified; usable support in the destination still requires a named provider.

Questions to resolve

  • Is the intended job portable airway suction, bedside use or surgical suction?
  • Does the exact offered unit operate from mains directly or merely charge from it?
  • Which canister/filter system is included, and can it be supplied locally?
  • Who accepts the old S-SCORT or Gomco serial for service, and which parts are actually available?

What the evidence does not establish

  • No equivalent delivered package prices or independent failure-rate comparison were established.
  • Current serial-specific support for S-SCORT II/III and Gomco G180 was not confirmed.
  • Current product pages and parts listings do not establish stock or warranty coverage in the destination.
