Electrosurgery: what makes a $3,195 Force FX a bargain?
A dated refurbished offer gives the comparison a starting point. Accessories, tested output and the work you actually do decide its value.

About this photograph
Actual category accessory, exact manufacturer and compatibility not established; no claim it is a recommended generator.
The decision at a glance.
- Start here
- A refurbished Force FX is a credible routine-OR comparison when verified output, approved accessories and practical repairs come with it. Compare IDS-310 when a new platform offers a stronger complete service package.
- Spend more when
- Choose Hyfrecator 2000 for work within its office-procedure scope. FT10 earns additional spending when surgeons need its compatible advanced-energy instruments and the hospital can replenish them consistently.
- Watch the budget
- A generator price can omit pedals, pencils, forceps and return electrodes. Include smoke evacuation and supplies. Confirm voltage; the reviewed Hyfrecator seller package was specifically 115 V.
- Check the support
- Require serial-specific output and electrical-safety results for refurbishment. Match approved accessory part numbers, not just connectors. For FT10, establish software version and update eligibility.
Ask the supplier
- Which generator suffix, voltage, modes and pedals are supplied?
- Are the quoted pencils and return electrodes approved for this configuration?
- What is the recurring instrument cost for our intended advanced-energy cases?
The $3,195 offer is a starting line
Victori Medical's October 16, 2026 offer lists a certified-refurbished Force FX at US$3,195 with a stated 90-day warranty. That is useful budget evidence for a specific seller's unit, not a ready-to-operate room. Establish the model suffix, voltage, pedals and other included accessories before comparing it with a new IDS-310. Confirm what the warranty would require after export.
Put three amounts beside the asking price: completing the approved accessory kit, commissioning and output verification, and the provision for repairs and downtime. Then compare the resulting package with the new alternative. If the site already owns compatible accessories and has a reliable Force FX repair route, the old platform has a defensible advantage. If every fault requires expensive freight and interrupts the operating list, a higher new-system price may buy more usable service.
Office coagulation and advanced sealing deserve different budgets
The Hyfrecator 2000 serves the office role described in its instructions. MFI's verified US$1,035.90 offer is for the 115 V 7-900-115 package, with a hand-switching pencil, wall mount and small starter quantities of nonsterile tips. A buyer needing bipolar instruments or a foot control must price those additions. The electrical version and accessory list can change whether the apparent bargain fits the clinic.
At the other end, FT10 is worth paying for when the surgical service needs its compatible advanced instruments and can replenish them. Calculate that recurring basket using the intended procedures and case volume before valuing a discounted generator. Owning an advanced platform has little benefit if the instruments that provide its extra capability remain unaffordable.
Keep the accessories on the first page of the comparison
A connector that fits is not sufficient evidence that a pencil, pedal or return electrode is appropriate. Use exact approved part numbers and instructions. The earlier equipment notes' broad advice to choose reusable return pads does not settle compatibility with a particular generator's return-electrode monitoring or establish a valid reprocessing route.
Include smoke evacuation and its recurring supplies in the funded procedure setup. CONMED's instructions address smoke removal, accessory inspection and restrictions on reusing single-use accessories. Damaged cable insulation and depleted supplies can prevent use of an otherwise working generator, so replacement availability belongs beside the capital price.
Pay for evidence about the offered unit
For a refurbished generator, obtain the serial-specific electrical-safety and output-verification record, relevant mode and alarm checks, refurbishment scope and repair terms. For FT10, include software version and update eligibility. A seller's certification is useful only to the extent that it defines work the buyer can verify.
No comparable field failure-rate data support a universal winner here. The procurement decision can still be firm: retain the Force FX when its capability and repair plan work; change platforms when the complete replacement resolves a documented capability or continuity problem. Wattage, a new display or a familiar brand does not supply that reason on its own.

Valleylab Force FX
Budget refurbished comparator
- Best for
- Routine operating-room use with a tested unit and established repair access
- Why consider it
- A current first-party refurbished offer gives the old recommendation a real budget anchor. If the hospital already has compatible approved accessories, retaining that ecosystem may reduce its installed cost.
- The trade-off
- Refurbishment quality varies by serial; age and a familiar name do not establish output accuracy or remaining service life. Confirm the actual model suffix, voltage and included pedals.
- Price & package
- Victori Medical displayed US$3,195 on 2026-10-16 for its certified-refurbished Force FX listing, with a stated 90-day warranty. This is that seller’s offer, not a market average or delivered mission package; accessory inclusions and international warranty need written confirmation.
- Support
- Seller refurbishment and warranty statements were published. Current OEM service commitment at the destination was not confirmed.
Bovie IDS-310 300W Electrosurgical Generator
New general-surgery comparison
- Best for
- A hospital seeking a current generator with documented service resources
- Why consider it
- Aspen publishes an exact product page, accessories, user guides and a service guide. A new-system quote can be compared against the actual repair and downtime allowance of the Force FX.
- The trade-off
- Rated power is not evidence of better tissue effect, reliability or value. Match the required modes, accessories and local servicing; avoid paying for capacity the service will never use.
- Price & package
- Quote required as of 2026-10-16; no verified complete public offer was obtained.
- Support
- Manufacturer documentation and service-guide availability were confirmed online. Parts delivery and authorized local service terms remain unconfirmed.
CONMED Hyfrecator 2000, 7-900-115
Office shortlist
- Best for
- The office-procedure role specifically supported by its instructions
- Why consider it
- It provides monopolar and bipolar functions with separate high/low outputs and fine low-power adjustment. It fits the old review’s useful distinction between a small office tool and a full surgical generator.
- The trade-off
- The 115 V seller configuration is not appropriate for every destination supply. Bipolar forceps, foot control and other accessories can add materially to the basic package. Do not assume it replaces a general cut/coag generator.
- Price & package
- MFI Medical displayed US$1,035.90 on 2026-10-16 for factory-new 7-900-115. Listed contents include hand-switching pencil, wall mount and small starter quantities of nonsterile tips; freight/export, extra electrodes and bipolar accessories require confirmation.
- Support
- Current CONMED manual and product materials exist. MFI lists a one-year warranty; applicability overseas and any extension must be confirmed with the actual seller.
Medtronic Valleylab FT10, VLFT10GEN
Specialist alternative
- Best for
- A service with a justified advanced-energy workload and funded compatible instrument supply
- Why consider it
- Medtronic documents LigaSure capability, adaptive energy control and software updates. These can be relevant capabilities when the surgeons’ intended procedures and instrument choices actually use them.
- The trade-off
- Advanced single-use instruments, software support and service can dominate ownership. Do not buy it merely because a donated unit appears inexpensive.
- Price & package
- Quote required as of 2026-10-16 for human-use generator, enabled functions and procedure-specific instruments.
- Support
- Current manufacturer product and software-support routes were found. Destination service and update eligibility of a used unit remain to be confirmed.
Budget for the complete service.
Cost per completed procedure = (generator + approved accessories + output/safety testing + repairs + consumables + smoke evacuation + backup provision) / completed procedures
- Return electrodes and compatibility-specific cables
- Pencils, electrodes, forceps and foot controls
- Advanced-energy instruments
- Smoke evacuation filters and tubing
- Electrical/output testing and repair freight
Further checks & evidence limits
Questions to resolve
- Which exact human-use generator suffix, voltage and modes are being supplied?
- Are all accessory part numbers approved for that configuration?
- What measured output and safety results accompany the serial number?
- Does advanced energy add a capability the hospital will fund consistently?
What the evidence does not establish
- No comparative field reliability or remaining-life estimates established.
- Current manufacturer repair support for Force FX and A2350 not confirmed.
- New IDS-310 and FT10 complete-package pricing remains quote-dependent.
