McGRATH, GlideScope or a flexible scope: choose the right kit
Start with the airway task, then decide how blades, batteries, charging and reusable-scope processing will stay available.

About this photograph
Discussed product family, earlier generation; not claimed to show the new-generation 301-000-000.
The decision at a glance.
- Start here
- Compare next-generation McGRATH MAC 301-000-000 where replacement batteries and blades are dependable, and GlideScope Go 2 where charging and battery service fit better. Include the necessary blade sizes.
- Spend more when
- For intermittent flexible-scope work, compare aScope 4 Broncho/aView 2 Advance with maintaining an intact LF-GP in a functioning reusable-processing service. Buy the complete recurring supply arrangement with either.
- Watch the budget
- Single-use scopes remove reused-scope processing but add freight, expiry and per-procedure costs. Reusable LF-GP economics depend on leak testing, processing, drying, storage and repair access.
- Check the support
- Check McGRATH serials, lawful provenance and applicable actions; next-generation labeling alone is insufficient. King Vision's documented component phase-out makes new fleet standardization dependent on a finite supply.
Ask the supplier
- Which blade and scope sizes can you replenish, with what expiry?
- What battery or charging arrangement keeps the complete kit ready?
- Can you document this handle's origin and completed applicable corrective actions?
Decide which job the kit must cover
Video laryngoscopy and flexible intubation/bronchoscopy belong in separate purchasing decisions. List the intended work, patient sizes, trained users and usable backup before selecting a display. A service may need both forms of visualization, but buying a premium video handle does not remove the need for a flexible scope when that is the required capability.
The earlier equipment notes favored LF-GP partly for its apparent economy. That remains a plausible retention choice for an intact scope in an established processing service. It is a much weaker shortcut for a new program that would first have to create leak testing, validated processing, drying, storage and repair arrangements. Phone adapters and abbreviated chemical-processing suggestions from those notes are not adopted.
Choose the power dependency the team can manage
McGRATH and Go 2 offer a practical choice between proprietary replaceable batteries and rechargeable operation. Favor McGRATH when approved batteries can be stocked reliably; favor Go 2 when the team can keep the charger available and obtain battery service. Go 2's published up-to-100-minute runtime is a manufacturer specification, not a measured promise for this site's battery condition or workload.
The public handle prices are incomplete comparisons. Denova displayed US$3,500 for McGRATH 301-000-000, while Bell Medical listed CoPilot at US$3,975 on October 16, 2026. Neither opened listing established a complete equivalent kit. Add the needed blade sizes, power, spare provision and destination support before deciding which is cheaper. CoPilot stays conditional because its current manufacturer production and service commitments were not confirmed.
Price a quiet year as well as a busy one
For intermittent flexible-scope work, aScope 4 Broncho can avoid maintaining a reusable scope between patients. Its reusable aView 2 Advance display still needs power, cleaning and support, and enough appropriate unopened scopes must be available when needed. Single-use scope freight, size mix and expiry can dominate a quiet service's cost.
An existing LF-GP earns continued use when its fiber bundle, angulation, leak integrity and channel condition remain acceptable and the complete processing route works. Compare annual processing and likely repair costs with delivered single-use quantities at both expected and lower activity. The calculation should include how the service continues during a reusable-scope repair or a delay in disposable deliveries; neither purchase creates backup by itself.
Check the exact handle before building a fleet around it
The FDA's 2024 McGRATH action distinguishes affected older 300-000-000 and 300-200-000 handles from next-generation 301-000-000, which received updated battery instructions. A separate 2023 notice concerned defective next-generation units distributed through unauthorized channels. The product number therefore needs provenance, serial checks and applicable corrective-action evidence alongside it.
Ambu's December 2023 communication says discontinued components stopped new King Vision display and blade manufacturing, with remaining products phased out as stocks depleted. That does not establish that every item is unavailable today. It does mean a new fleet would depend on a finite supply without a verified long-term replenishment plan. No comparative field failure data justify replacing these specific checks with a brand reliability ranking.
Compare the options.

Model notes, pricing & support 5 options
Medtronic McGRATH MAC, next-generation 301-000-000
Video choice with dependable battery supply
- Best for
- A portable kit with predictable access to approved blades and replacement batteries.
- Why consider it
- The current platform uses single-use blades and an integrated display; this limits the amount of patient-contact hardware requiring reuse. Standardizing one handle and an appropriate size range can make stock control practical.
- The trade-off
- Its proprietary battery and recurring blades remain dependencies. The 2024 action treated older handles differently from this model, while battery-handling instructions still matter.
- Price & package
- Denova Medical displayed US$3,500 for Enhanced McGRATH MAC, part 301-000-000, accessed 2026-10-16. Condition, battery/blade quantities, warranty, taxes and delivery were not established by the catalog listing; request an itemized package.
- Support
- Current Medtronic product and safety information were opened. A local service agreement and this seller's authorized provenance were not confirmed.
Verathon GlideScope Go 2
Rechargeable video alternative
- Best for
- A service that can maintain charging and wants a compact shared-display workflow.
- Why consider it
- Verathon specifies a rechargeable battery with up to 100 minutes operation and IP67 protection. These provide concrete reasons to compare it with a replaceable-battery handle.
- The trade-off
- Rechargeability trades recurring battery purchases for battery aging and charger availability. Compatible blades, sizes and spare equipment must be priced; an ingress rating is not proof of field reliability.
- Price & package
- Quote required as of 2026-10-16 for monitor, charger, approved blades and service coverage; no verified public complete-package price.
- Support
- Current manufacturer page and support route verified; destination-country repair turnaround and battery replacement terms unconfirmed.
Ambu aScope 4 Broncho with aView 2 Advance
Intermittent flexible-scope alternative
- Best for
- Intermittent flexible intubation/bronchoscopy where maintaining a reusable-scope processing and repair service is difficult.
- Why consider it
- Ambu lists aScope 4 Broncho in its single-use pulmonology range and compatibility with aView 2 Advance. It removes the reused scope from the between-patient reprocessing workload.
- The trade-off
- Every procedure consumes a scope; stock expiry, shipping volume and disposal may dominate cost. The display still needs appropriate handling, cleaning and power. Quote the scope size/channel needed for the intended work.
- Price & package
- Quote required as of 2026-10-16 for display plus actual case-volume quantities and size mix. No public price was verified.
- Support
- Current manufacturer portfolio and compatibility verified; local stock and replacement-display arrangements unconfirmed.
Olympus PORTAVIEW LF-GP
Keep if already owned and supportable
- Best for
- An established reusable flexible-scope service with trained operators and validated processing.
- Why consider it
- Olympus still describes the LF-GP as a portable tracheal intubation fiberscope. An already-owned, intact device may avoid a new display platform and recurring single-use-scope purchases.
- The trade-off
- Its value depends on fiber condition, angulation, leak integrity, channel condition and repairability. A low purchase price can be overwhelmed by one major repair or an incomplete reprocessing chain.
- Price & package
- No verified current ready-for-use price; require a serial-specific inspection and refurbishment quote rather than value a bare used listing.
- Support
- A current regional product page is available; current manufacturer repairs, parts and local support were not confirmed.
Magaw CoPilot VL
Conditional legacy alternative
- Best for
- An existing CoPilot service or a buyer offered a documented supported package.
- Why consider it
- Bell Medical still lists the device and its bougie/introducer ecosystem. This is evidence of a sales route, sufficient to keep it in a comparison rather than pronounce it unavailable.
- The trade-off
- Dealer marketing is not comparative clinical evidence. Current manufacturer support duration, replacement blade supply and exact supplied configuration remain open.
- Price & package
- Bell Medical's opened category page displayed US$3,975 for CoPilot Video Laryngoscope on 2026-10-16. Included components, warranty, export delivery and stock were not verified; do not compare this directly with a bare handle price.
- Support
- Seller listing verified; current manufacturer production and regional service not confirmed.
Budget for the complete service.
Cost per ready procedure = (complete system + replacement power + consumables + processing + service + freight + downtime/backup provision) ÷ completed supported procedures.
- Single-use blade and flexible-scope quantities by patient size, including unused expiry stock
- Proprietary batteries versus rechargeable battery replacement and charging equipment
- Reusable-scope leak testing, processing supplies, drying/storage and repairs
- Backup display/handle access and local repair turnaround
Further checks & evidence limits
Questions to resolve
- Can the supplier verify exact serial, lawful provenance and completion of applicable field actions?
- Which blade and flexible-scope sizes remain available locally, at what delivered pack price and expiry?
- What repair or replacement service is explicitly offered in the destination country?
What the evidence does not establish
- No comparative field failure-rate or service-life study was established.
- Complete delivered prices, local blade stock and written support commitments remain unconfirmed.
- C-MAC and Olympus MAF configurations were not sufficiently verified for a fresh ranking.
